Baby Wearing Safety

Your child’s safety is your responsibility, all the time.

Baby wearing is absolutely safe and an extremely beneficial thing to do for your baby.  As with anything that you do with your baby, you want to make sure that they stay safe.  Please read the following safety reminders to help ensure that you are taking the best care of your baby.

Always check your sling to make sure that there are no holes or damage to your sling.  If you find any damage to your sling, Stop using it.

Only use carrying positions that are appropriate for your child’s age and development.

Always make sure that your baby can breathe unobstructed.

Please use caution and common sense when carrying your baby.  Until you are comfortable carrying your baby in the sling, continue to support your child with your arm.  Keep your baby away from items that are hot or sharp (ie. No cooking, drinking hot liquids, ironing, etc.)

Only use your Snuggy Baby sling in situations that you would normally carry your baby.  For example, you would not carry your baby in your arms when you went out jogging, nor should you hold your baby instead of using a car seat.  You should not wear your baby in a sling while doing these tasks either.

Be aware that while wearing your baby, you take up more space than you would on your own.  Take care around corners and doorways so that you do not bump your baby into these.

Pay attention to what your baby can reach.  Your baby is now at an adult’s arm level where we normally keep knives, and hot objects.  He is also at the perfect height to reach that large stack of things that you had neatly organized and send them tumbling to the floor.  Be aware of what your baby is reaching for.

Take caution to avoid dangerous or toxic substances when babies are near.

It is especially dangerous to smoke or drink hot beverages while holding a baby.

It's a good habit to check your baby's position every hour or so to make sure circulation is not being compromised.
